[Solved] Calc spreadsheet opens to OpenOffice Writer

My recent spreadsheet is not opening properly. Openoffice changed the spreadsheet to openoffice writer. My computer did not crash and is not corrupted. I have tried recovery and nothing seems to work. All other openoffice .ods (spreadsheet and writer) open fine. How do I get the spreadsheet to revert back to a spreadsheet? I have read the other posts pertaining to this problem and there seems to be no answer why this happens and the one posted solution does not help me.

How does this happen? Why are my other files not corrupted. I would like to avoid having this happen again. Thank you.

Your file is full of null characters and contains no user data.

It includes Why is my Writer file full of #####? with an explanation of files full of null characters. Such files, whether .odt, .ods or .odp, always open with Writer and display as ######.

Your PC crashed, hanged or was powered off before Windows had flushed its buffers to disk.

How does this happen? Why are my other files not corrupted. I would like to avoid having this happen again. Thank you.

This can happen if there is a program or computer crash. If there is no such event, it may be caused by overhasty power off of computer or closure of a laptop lid before the internal write buffers of the hard disk have written to disk. After closing OpenOffice, just wait a few seconds until disk activity has stopped; use those seconds to pick up your pens and papers and stow them in your bag, then shut down computer.
