[Solved] Change time format from AM/PM to a/p

Post by denmarks »

I want to change the time format from "AM/PM" to "a/p". For example I want "5:43 AM" to display as "5:43 a". I have tried it with both "A/P" and "a/p". In both cases it displays with the lower case "a" or "p". Since I do not want upper case that does not matter though it seems to indicate a slight problem. My problem is after saving and reopening the time reverts back to AM/PM. What am I doing wrong? Maybe lower case is not possible but is a single letter possible?

Same situation as these topics:

[Solved] Cell format not saving
[Solved] Custom Fraction Formats
[Solved] Cell format changing on Save
[Solved] User-defined Formatting disappears at re-opening

The design of the ODF specification does not allow for saving of arbitrary number formats. AM/PM is the only 12-hour time display format which can be saved in an ODS file. Review workarounds in those topics.

If this solved your problem please go to your first post use the Edit button and add [Solved] to the start of the subject field. Select the green checkmark icon at the same time.

Thanks. I just copied the correctly formatted data, before saving, to a notepad and then copied it back as text. Worked fine.

Just for curiosity:
Why don't you use a reasonable time format?
AM/PM should really be abandoned now being outdated already for many decades, and impractical for exchange for many reasons. However, replacing it with a newly invented specially stubborn and completely unknown format should be the worst idea.
On Windows 10: LibreOffice 24.2 (new numbering) and older versions, PortableOpenOffice 4.1.7 and older, StarOffice 5.2

This was for my own use. It is a railroad timetable and I wanted it to be as compact as possible.

I would use 24 hour time format then.

I agree - 24 hour time is safer for all timetabling.
