[Solved] Columns vanish after Save
[Solved] Columns vanish after Save
Would appreciate your help with this spreadsheet question. Modest-sized spreadsheet (120KB) into which I manually type data. No formulas or links. I use Time Machine to back up about once a week.
I enter some new columns and hit Save. A bunch of columns at the "end" (right) vanish. I did not hide them. I did not make the font color match the cell background color.
So, I open the two-day old version saved via Time Machine and it too is missing the columns.
I try closing and reopening the file and get this message:" Document locked for editing by: Unknown User (I'm the only user on this computer, fyi). Open document read-only or open a copy of the document for editing."
Both of those options display the spreadsheet with missing data.
So, I manually enter the data again, doing File: Save after adding EACH individual column. After about 20 columns of data entered, the same problem occurs.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
This is OpenOffice 4.1.5 on MacOS 10.15.7

I saved as .ods, but no luck. The data isn't there.

Please upload your spreadsheet so that we can examine the format. The data is irrelevant, and there are instructions in this tutorial on how to anonymize your spreadsheet before uploading it.
I have a small problem believing that a 230 column spreadsheet is only 120k in size.

Re: Columns vanish after Save
Sorry, I don't see any buttons in the UI that enable me to attach a file.
Would you please tell me how I can have an attachment with my reply?
Thanks.

Re: Columns vanish after Save
The xls format is limited to 256 columns, I think. Your data end at column IV, which is the 256th column.
Use the ods format to use more columns.
