[Solved] I want to run OO Calc on something other than...

Post by imadumby »

My desktop or laptop.

Maybe an arduino or raspberry PI or something else but I really don't know anything about these. Is this possible? I'm just looking for something much smaller, less expensive and simply dedicated to this program.

Any suggestions to get me started?

A big, fat application on a tiny device? Well, Raspberry Pi runs on Linux. That Linux distribution comes with a fairly well usable desktop environment and the package manager includes LibreOffice.

Check the RAM of your Raspberry first.
If this is 1GB or less check the software wich is used by the AntiX Distribution of Linux, as this covers older Computers with less RAM and speed.

(As I remember, they had gnumeric)

Sounds like, for someone who doesn't know about these things, raspberry pi is the easiest way to go, is under 4 inches long and looks like I could maybe do it for under 100 bucks.

Unless someone has a better solution, this looks pretty "solved" to me. Thanks!

I keep deciding not to buy a Raspberry Pi, in spite of the temptation. If I did, I would certainly get that with maximum RAM for development work, and might then get a lower specified model for a specific application such as a printer/scanner driver.

A Pi with 4 Gb, LibreElec and a big chunky NAS, or external SSD in my case, makes an excellent media streaming device. Or if I prefer, I can swap to my Slackware ARM memory card and turn it into a work machine with a 65 inch monitor :-)

To keep slightly on topic, I seem to recall seeing something on the dev mailing list about work on an ARM version of AOO.
Cheers
