Can't paste copied Writer text to Spreadsheet Merged field

Hello, Everyone:
I created a large field in SS by merging several fields.
I copy text from a Writer document, then do a "paste" into the merged SS field.
No matter what I do, nothing works right.

How do I paste straight-up copied text from a Writer document into this merged SS area in a way that looks like it did in Writer?

You must not merge any data cells. This is a cosmetic feature for labels but you must not do that to your precious data.
