[Dropped] Spreadsheet for monthly income/expenses
[Dropped] Spreadsheet for monthly income/expenses
Wonder if you can direct me to a manual regarding auto sum and subtract. I have Window 365, but really don't like it. I have looked on google for tutorials, but I find them confusing. What a need is a spread sheet that I can enter monthly income subtract monthly bills, and have a running total . What I had with wordexcell is. I would put and amount, subtract an amount and it would give me a total, and so forth. I hope that I have made my shelf understood. Kind regards Ann

Re: Spread sheets
Whatever you have in Excel, open it with OpenOffice Calc, then save it in Calc's native format (*.ods) and continue working with that.

Re: Spread sheets
It would be helpful if you would upload the small sample sheet to the Forum; listing the data as you did does not allow us see the internal structure/data types, which a sample sheet would do. The upload tab is below the Submit button on Post Reply and Full Editor screens.
It is probable that if you have -700.00 postage in one cell, it is all text, and text has a numeric value of zero.

A predefined budget spreadsheet for Calc may be downloaded from
https://templates.openoffice.org/en/tem ... preadsheet
This may be over-complex for your needs.

Re: Spread sheets
Works for me.
I put the cell cursor below the -700
-700.00 postage
hit the "auto sum" button left of the formula bar and get
4700,02 below the -700

Re: Spread sheets
That is an incorrect sum, Villeroy. It the running total is 2700.01, then applying -700 (postage) and -700 (next line), the answer should be 1300.01.

Re: Spread sheets
I have done spread sheet for you to look at of how I would like to do with spread sheet. POSTREPLY button (or click the Full Editor button ) But I can't see anything that lets me attach the spread sheet for you to see. I'm sorry I'm really struggling with this spree sheet. in Excel that I used to use before, I just entered a balance then all I had to do is insert an amount to add, or a minus amount and just click on the Autosum button. Kind regards Ann

OpenOffice is not Excel; they work quite similarly, but there are differences.

Re: Spread sheets
Simply tag your file .ods.zip or .xls.zip and enter some text in the message for the posting "Here is a sample file" or similar.

No file attached; you may have missed a step in RoryOF's instructions, possibly the clicking on the Add file button?

Re: Spread sheets
OK; create a new spreadsheet, save it in Calc's native ods format.
Dump your data in column A and put this into any cell besides column A: =SUM(A1:A1048576) whcih sums up all numbers in A.

Windows users do not see any file name extension. They know nothing about it. Since 26 years they fumble around with a desktop system which relies massively on file name extensions while hiding them away from its users. What is the extension of the file you are trying to upload - e.g. .xlsx, .ods, ??? Or, what type of file is it?
