Corrupted .ods file

Post by Intotherain »

Hello, unfortunately I have a corrupt file, I think that it happened yesterday when I had to force a PC reset while it was opened. Unfortunately I don't have a backup, I have already looked for temp files but it didn't work.
I've tried everything I could, failed to zip it and extract, tried many recovery software but nothing worked so far. Openoffice calc just open it blank.
I've saw that you guys helped some users in the past recovering the file, it would be great if you could help me.
Google drive link of the file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CCkS0L ... sp=sharing

Thanks a lot.

Your file is badly damaged. I am not expert in recovering Calc files, so leave that (if possible) to those with more expertise on that type of file.

Have you tried using Recuva or PhotoRec to perform an indepth undelete for temporary files?

I've tried Recuva but it didn't help, do you have a legit download link for PhotoRec? The sites I found seems a bit shady

Your file is full of null characters and there is no user data in it.

See Why is my Writer file full of #####? for an explanation of files full of null characters which Writer displays as ######.

See [Tutorial] How to find and un-delete AOO temporary files for detailed instructions on how to

a) use Previous Versions (W7 and later) to recover previous versions of the file (is there something similar on MacOS and Linux?);

b) recover your file as it was when you last opened or saved it, or as it was when it was last saved with AutoRecovery;

c) find previous versions of the file in the folder it is located in, but which have since been deleted;

d) find any temporary files AOO wrote while you were editing the file but which have not yet been deleted;

e) un-delete the temporary files AOO wrote while you were editing the file, and then deleted. d) and e) will recover your file as it was when you last opened or you last saved it.

If you cannot follow the instructions ask someone with more PC skills to help you. Act quickly - the longer you wait the more likely any temporary files are to be deleted.

For future peace of mind you might consider installing the Timestamped backup extension, which will allow you to make multiple, timestamped backups of your document. Note that this must be invoked separately from your normal Save.
