"Find Text" Unexpected Error Causing Repeated Crashes 4.1.7

Post by Brother Rabbit »

Just installed 4.1.7 and am having the same Find = Crash issue from before then. Just hoping to finally get a solution. (Not sure if this is also related to other issues that arose about the same time where update check fails every time which I found is maybe not getting fixed from this recent apache forum thread https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=127789 / Also there are random crashes, but I just save after most edits now)

Any further information on this issue and whether it will ever be fixed in Win10 without the current workaround which is to use "Ctrl+F" for the Find & Replace interface, would be amazing. (I would like to avoid having to locate/uninstall and continue to block any updates, just hoping to get this wonderful app working again as normal with as little additional effort and fear of losing work as possible) =:xB

Noting the slow (almost non-existent) development of OpenOffice, I find it unlikely (though, not impossible) that a fix for this situation will be released.
Have you tried LibreOffice?

As to updates, OpenOffice does not, never has, and (probably) never will automatically update itself.
The Check Updates feature, which is broken and has been for some time, only notified you that an update was available. You still had to manually download and install the update.
OpenOffice 4.1.7, LibreOffice 7.0.1.2 on Windows 7 Pro, Ultimate & Windows 10 Home (2004)

Installing Libra Office now. I didn't realize it was being touted as a successor to Open Office, or that Open wasn't getting updates. (I know that the update checker used to have a button that allowed me to update it and that happened quite frequently by comparison to some other spreadsheet apps I've used)

Thanks for the suggestion. I guess I hope it will render moot my crash issues with Open Office. I've been using Open for over a decade and will miss it's constant service enjoyed over that time.

Thanks.
