Can't remove links with Edit → Links → Break Link

 Edit: Split from Why "Update All Links?" when opening my file? 
It would appear that my "Break Links" button does not work. I have several links from old .xls spreadsheets that I created and later changed to .ods and I cannot remove them. Some of the .xls files don't even exist.

We need a sample file: then we will able to examine it.
