ods file keeps opening through csv importer

Postby allhopeisgone91 » Mon Feb 24, 2020 9:39 pm

Hello,
I have the ods file that I had opened last night and saved it. This morning I went to open it and it opens the csv importer.
The default settings of the csv importer are showing the file is empty. I changed the coding to see if any of them would find the file information nothing.
Any help would be great.
Thank you,

Is it the CVS importer or a screen asking for ASCII character selection?

1. Open it with Notepad. If it is a .csv file it will open and you will be able to read the values.
2. Rename it fred.zip. Double click it. Do you see files like content.xml? If so, it is a .odt? .ods? file.

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

To attempt to recover your files, try the methods outlined in this Tutorial
[Tutorial] How to find and un-delete AOO temporary files
for ways to try and recover any temporary OpenOffice files that may still be on your computer.

If that doesn't help, then as soon as possible do the following:

Download Recuva or PhotoRec (only one needed) and let it do an indepth recovery of deleted files on your computer. You may get a file containing some or all of your data (or not). Do this as a first priority; other use of the computer may overwrite any existing but deleted files and prevent their recovery. There is no guarantee that you will recover anything useful. You may need to rename any such files to type .doc.

Do the above soonest!

For any important work it is essential to make regular dated backups.

The timed/dated backup extension may be of use to you. You can download it from
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?p=406045#p405921

Note that you must invoke it separately using its button; it does not replace the standard save mechanism.
