[Solved] Align text vertically

Post by robp »

Hello I'm new to this and so I hope that I'm in the correct place.

I need to create a simple spreadsheet but with a lot of columns that will still show on A4 landscape. Therefore I will need to use vertical orientation on the column headings. Even better, angled ones. The actual column in the sheet can just be wide enough for a "tick" or a "1".

Any help gratefully received

Thanks Rob

Look at Format | Cells and under Alignment play around with Text Orientation and Vertically Stacked.

Thanks robleyd. That's good, yes it achieves what I wanted. I.e. being able to get a lot of columns per printed page. If I could get the column header cells angled at say 45 degrees it would be nice but not essential.
Thanks again

Not possible with a spreadsheet. If you are only interested in printed output - i.e. no calculation involved - you might be better off with desktop publishing software. Possibly Scribus could do what you want.

David. It's a spreadsheet I need. It's fairly standard, I just can't see how to do it. I've found vertical texting which gives me more columns but 45degrees headings would be better

You can set the text to any angle you want, but that will cause the column width to increase to accommodate the text. As I mention above, you can't make the cells "slanted".

Maybe then it's something that you can do in Excel but not Calc. I have images of what I want.

In fact, with a little fiddling, you can get something approximating what I think you are trying to do.

Yes that's exactly it. Many columns and headers easy to read. I'll keep at it. Thanks
