Find files by search for text

Post by Phillip »

Is it possible in WIndows to search multiple ODS files for text? In order to find which spreadsheet contains a certain value?

Yes it is.
There are several topics about that. Windows should do that by itself.
Personally, I use DocFetcher. I just made a test and even if the value is the result of a formula, it is found.

Please add [Solved] at the beginning of the title in your first post (top of the topic) with the *EDIT button if your issue has been fixed.

Yes, if you set up Windows Search to "Index Properties and File Contents" for ODS files. If you don't know how to set up Windows Search, go to a Windows forum or try a Google search for "windows search file contents".

Still cannot search .ODS files for content. Is it because of a missing Filter? See attached.
If so, how can add the missing filter?

Yes. Windows Search won't work without the appropriate IFilter. Installing AOO should have installed the IFilter, but I can't tell you why it can't be found. A Google search for the message may find a solution.

After many searches all I can find is a reference to "ooofilt_x64.dll OpenDocument Format Filter" but this refers to WIndows 10.
See https://www.exefiles.com/en/dll/ooofilt-x64-dll/
Although this is mentioned in viewtopic.php?f=15&t=96075
Does anyone know if this will also work for Win 7 64-bit?
The attached shows my Windows Search is set to search in contents.

You shouldn't have to go to some outside source for the iFilter. It's in the AOO installation file. Just repair the installation.

In the dialog box you posted, your indexing settings request "Index properties only". To do what you are asking, you should change that setting (below the file types list pane) to "Index properties and file contents".

Be warned that reindexing may take some time (in excess of an hour is not uncommon) and resources (slowing down your computer significantly). How much it affects your system depends on size and complexity of your documents store, as well as the computing resources available.
