[Tutorial] Profile reset on Windows 10 - with images

Resetting user profile in Windows 10
To be used when OpenOffice applications display "behavioral issues".

• Stop OpenOffice processes
  • Make sure all OpenOffice windows (Writer, Calc, Impress, etc.) are closed.
  • Check the system tray (icons beside the clock on the taskbar) for the OpenOffice quickstarter icon: blue disc with seagulls.
    The icon may be hidden. Click the ^ icon to display hidden tray icons.

    

    If you see that icon, right click it and select to quit the quickstarter.
• Disable the old OpenOffice profile
  • Copy the exact text from the single-word line below, to the system clipboard (select it and press ctrl+C).
    Make sure you include the percent signs before and after.

  • Click the search tool on the taskbar

  • Paste what you copied before (click inside the search field, then press ctrl+V). Press the enter or newline key.
  • You should get a file manager window with some folders. Locate the folder named OpenOffice

• • You now want to rename that folder so OpenOffice does not recognize it:
    Click the folder icon and press F2 to activate editing. I recommend just appending ".old" to the folder name.

• Regenerate a default profile
  • Open your OpenOffice application of choice again and see whether it behaves better.
    When OpenOffice does not find the expected profile folder in AppData, it automatically generates a new one with sensible default settings.
    As a part of profile creation you will be asked for personal data at startup.

If you find that you lose more than you gain by this procedure, you can revert to your old profile by revisiting the %AppData% location and renaming new and old OpenOffice folders.

I had the same problem with AOO underlining ALL my text as misspelled.
I registered to the forum just to say thank you!!

I am soooooo far outside my abilities, I think OO will have to be uninstalled. Thanks for trying to help me..........There must be another 'word' alternative out there that is easy to use....just sayin

If you use a computer you should have some basic computer knowledge. See Resetting the user profile for alternative instructions or, on Windows 10:

1. Stop AOO
2. Open a File Explorer window
3. Click in the Address bar
4. Type C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming in the address bar, where xxxxxx is your user name, and press Enter
5. right-click OpenOffice. Choose Rename. Rename it to something else
6. Start AOO.
