Hey everyone, check this site out:
http://easy10seconds.com/How-To-Video/OpenOffice.org
It has a few hundred short videos showing openoffice commands in action, for Writer, Impress, & Calc.
After you load the video make sure you "scrub/drag" your mouse along the play bar to to make the movie go fast/slow or stop. Its a great way to watch tutorial videos like this. I usually go through about 50 of these videos in about 10 minutes & learn a lot! :bravo:

Let me know what you think.

Well, nicely packaged, but... at first sight it doesn't appear (to me) to address what users are really fighting with and, e.g. for formatting, it shows exactly what we recommend to avoid: hard, direct, non-reusable formatting.

I could not find a single video in the Calc section that would answer some of the frequently asked questions. The videos are embarrassing since they presume an IQ below freezing point. Even if you know where to click on styles (not showing that it takes a double-click), it does not explain anything.

haha thanks for the great feedback. :(

It is a start, at the basic level, which is lacking in almost any video tutorial or readable tutorial, which become so complex or so slow, so early in the learning that the average user losses total interest quickly. It is not meant to be a replacement for trouble shooting websites like this one, but a supplement. For example, if you are explaining something in text and want to link some of those commands to a visual aid this would be helpful. How many times have you read something that says go here -> go here -> do this -> and this -> but that second 'go here' you are not sure of & you spend the next 5+ minutes just looking for it? I know i have many times as well as many people i work with. This would help with that.

@Villeroy - Maybe you have an IQ of 140+ and have been using many of the programs day in day out for a while, but many have not. The site is meant to be a building block for people to learn the basics up to experts who might not know 100% of the program, & to learn it quickly visually. I can go through 50 commands in 10 minutes. I can get a grasp of many of the programs commands within 30 minutes, how many other learning options can do this? Let me know of one and I would be happy to look at it.

For example do you think everyone knows that you can or even where it is):
Calc: Customize the Menu Options - 20seconds - http://easy10seconds.com/How-To-Videos/OpenOffice.org/Calc/Customize-the-Menu-Options/video
Calc Video : How To Customize Calc Program Options - 17 seconds - http://easy10seconds.com/How-To-Video/OpenOffice.org/Calc/Customize-Calc-Program-Options/video

Or do you think that new Secretary for that non-for profit group knows how to (without spending an hour looking for it):
Calc Video : How To Add a Bullet Graphic - 17 seconds - http://easy10seconds.com/How-To-Videos/OpenOffice.org/Calc/Add-a-Bullet-Graphic/video
Writer: Insert a Section From Another File - 30 seconds - http://easy10seconds.com/How-To-Videos/OpenOffice.org/Writer/Insert-a-Section-From-Another-File/video

I started with the basics, as anybody that plays sports knows, the basics are fundamental to becoming an expert. Too many 'experts' I know only know 30% of the program, I want to change that.

Come on. 90% of that stuff is nothing but ridiculous. Select an object and call Edit>Cut or Ctrl+X is far too low level.
The Photoshop examples on that site are better but still close to useless. That level can not help you to get work done.

ahhh, but 10% is not ridiculous! See even you find some of it helpful :-) Also, have you tried the software training? Try the photoshop module. In there, there is a "Video Hint" that pops-up the video, very cool if you dont know the command & very easy to skip if you do know. This way a beginner as well as an advanced user can learn.
photoshop test - http://easy10seconds.com/Demo/Photoshop-CS4/25/33
Try the 'speed test' if you think your really good and see how many commands you can find in the 10 second time limit, try to get a perfect. If you can't get perfect then you know you either need to learn the command or become faster at the program, because seriously, if you don't know where the command is in less than 10 seconds you are wasting time. Wasting time finding/learning the command rather than doing the command is a huge problem with today's software.

The approach is not only to supply simple how-to's, but to teach people how to use the program faster and more efficient. How many other websites try to even approach this, let alone accomplish it. I also plan on making more complicated tutorials soon, but i think starting with the basics is important.

Google search "openoffice tutorials" and click "Videos" at the top of the search results.
