I saved a winword 97 doc file. 2 hours later, tried to open it and it would not open. It displayed an X inside a red circle , and "Read-Error" "This is not a WinWord 97 file"
Please help me open the file. I am very untechnical! So, please explain in simplicity. Thanks for your help!!

Please upload the file showing the problem so that it can be analysed. Use the Upload attachment tab below where you type (128 kB max); or use a file share site, Dropbox or Google Drive for a larger file.

CASE SOLVED: "READ ERROR, THIS IS NOT A WINWORD 97 FILE"
I was able to retrieve the file after I sent to to a gmail account, and opened it with google doc. It was partially corrupted because the 10 page file became 111 pages. But, I was glad to be able to edit it back to normal.
