[Solved] Keyboard Shortcuts For Changing Page Magnification

Post by GridLok »

Firstly: Apologies if the following has already been posted - in an admittedly hasty search of both Google and this Forum, as well as the User Manual, I did not find the following.

To establish a keyboard shortcut to open the Zoom Dialogue box:
1. Click on Tools > Customise to reveal "Customise" dialogue box
2. Click to select “Keyboard” tab
3. Under “Category” click to select “View”
4. Under "Function" click to select "Zoom" - as far as I could determine "Zoom In" & "Zoom Out" are inoperative
5. Under "Shortcut Keys" select an available key combination - I chose Option/Command/F
6. Click on "Modify" to activate
7. Click on "OK"

Using the established keyboard shortcut, launch the Zoom Dialogue box. The default 'active' button is "100%". If your goal is to restore your page magnification to that view, press "Return" (= click "OK"). To select a different magnification, press the Down Arrow once to shift attention to button labelled "Variable". Subsequent pressing of Up/Down Arrow buttons will change magnification in 1% increments. To close dialogue box press "Return" (= click "OK").

With even a little practise I found this to be quite an efficient procedure.

An easy way is View>Status Bar > set magnification to what you want. The Status bar is at the bottom of the visible page.

Sure is easy that way, Yoda, and that's what I have done to date. However, for a task I recently undertook, having the option to enlarge (110% in some situations and 120% in others) proved useful. When I was looking for an easier way than using the slider, the above is what eventuated. I posted out of the possibility that others also might find it useful … especially if they didn't want to get involved in writing a macro - as had been previously suggested.

It doesn't work that way for me in Linux. The default in Linux is the current setting. If the current setting is "100%", then the default is "100%". If the current setting is "200%", then the default is "200%". If the current setting is "Optimal", then the default is "Optimal".

Ok Bill. I haven't explored the question of default settings … shall do so. Perhaps it's merely a curiosity … the procedure I arrived at. One of my teachers commented that I had a knack for finding 'complicated' ways of arriving at a solution for what are, essentially, simple issues! I'll mark the post "Solved" … it may reduce the number of users wasting their time.

Otherwise you can record a macro, for switching to a specific zoom value. Just assign the macro to the desired (but free) shorcut key.
