I have OpenOffice 4. I saved a typed letter to my desktop. When I try to open it, it goes to MS Word, which I do not have, so it will not open.
I have Windows 10. Thank you for any help. I searched but could not find a previous post about this.

Re: Saved file tries to opens in MS Word
Set the default program for such files to be OpenOffice. This is a setting in Windows.

Thank you. I'm not quite sure how to do that, but tomorrow I can get my son-in-law to help.

Re: Saved file tries to opens in MS Word
In Windows 10: Start > Settings > System > Default apps > Set defaults by app
Keep a note of this, as Windows updates will likely keep changing back to opening with MS Office.

Re: Saved file tries to opens in MS Word
In the meantime you can start OpenOffice and use File | Open to open your documents.

Re: Saved file tries to opens in MS Word
Thanks for all the help. I tried the settings and default thing, but could not get it to work. I was able to uninstall the trial program and this did work. Thanks for the comment on the Windows updates. I have made a note of it.
