Post by doctordreez »

I have a greek dictionary isntalled from an extension i found into the OO page.
I want to know what ia have to do in order to transfer all my additional corrections that i have made to a new computer.
What files should i transfer from my old computer to my new computer in order not to lose all the corrections that i have added to the dictionary.
Thanks.

1. Make certain you have the same version of AOO on both PCs.
2. Stop AOO
3. Copy the User Profile on PC_1 - it is C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user
4. Paste it on PC_2, replacing what is there.

All customisation etc is now copied across.

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

NB You can install a new dictionary by Tools > Extension manager ...

You will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

Do you really mean that you added your correction to the dictionary? Then why the question really?

To clarify:

Words you add to a dictionary are not added to the dictionary itself. They are stored in a flat file in the User Profile.

When AOO spellchecks it looks in both the normal downloaded dictionary file, and in the added words file.

I understand that the words that i add to the dictionary must be transfered from Users directory of the old PC to the Users directory in the new PC.
I used the same Open Office version (415) to both computers as u have told me.
I did that and everything looks ok.

BUT I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION: i want to go to OpenOffice 416. What should i do to preserve my words added already in the 415 Open Office?

Upgrade as normal. Customisation like added words etc is carried forward. It is only when you rename or delete the User Profile that you lose the added words.

If you want you can backup the added words - just backup C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\OpenOffice\4\user\wordbook.

Search the forum with dictionary for much more information and how to add words by "hacking" the added words file.

I would recommend to back up the entire user profile, not only the custom dictionaries.
