[Solved] Page numbering with OpenOffice 4
[Solved] Page numbering with OpenOffice 4
I am having trouble inserting page numbers into my document. I used>Insert>Fields>Page number or Page count, and Open Office responds "Page numbers" or "Statistics". What can I do to stop the "Statistics" message and put in the page numbers? Thanks in advance.

Re: Page numbering with OpenOffice 4
Try changing the setting of View | Field Names.
Search Help - F1 - for viewing;fields for more information.

Re: Page numbering with OpenOffice 4
I'm able to put the words "Pages 1 through 135" inside the footer, however each page reads the very same instead of "page 2 of 135," "page three of 135" etc. Just repeats the same thing for each page. Thanks to everyone for their advice. I'm getting closer to solving the problem.

Re: Page numbering with OpenOffice 4
That's what happens when you type a number in the footer. Numbers typed in the footer are just text and are repeated in multiple footers. To get a page number which updates automatically in each footer, you have to use Insert > Fields > Page Number, not just type a number.

Re: Page numbering with OpenOffice 4
In other words: You need combine the numeric fields and the static text content in the Footer:
where the [1] means the Page number field and the [135] means the Page count field.
Code: Select all
Pages [1] through [135]
