OpenOffice spell checker not working

For ages now when i open spell checker either from F7 or the tool bar button or menu . the spell checker screen flashes up underneath the "spell check complete" ok button..

I know there are errors in the text... reading the boards i found some one else who was having the same issue an found this helpful fix;

"when you click spellcheck (F7) a window opens which says spellcheck complete but at the top of the spellcheck window itself it says spellcheck none"

the remedy from "Bill" was Tools> options> language> writing aids - **untick and re tick Hunspell spell checker**

sadly i have done this a number of times now and closed and res started OO .. and there is no change the problem continues.... what now?

its getting really frustating.. ive tried every thing.. and i am not the worlds best speller so really need spell checker;-(
