[Solved] Spellcheck nonfunctional (no underlining, document

Post by themohawkninja »

Hello,

I started a new ODT file and have found that the spellcheck is not underlining clearly misspelled words. I have another ODT file up which does have words underlined in red.

Autospellcheck is enabled.
I have already rebuild my user profile.
I have attempted the fixes outlined in: http://www.bbc.co.uk/accessibility/guid ... penoffice/

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Maybe a language setting specific to that document? Have a look at:

Tools > Language > For all text ... Now set a language. Make sure you set it in your Default Template so all new documents pick it up.

If you don't set a language AOO does not know which dictionary to use!

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

When you have the file in question open in OO Writer, look at the centre of the Status Bar (bottom bar of OO Window; you may need to activate /View /Status bar to see this). In the centre it should show the language OO thinks the text is written in. If this is "None", you should set a language as John_Ha recommends.

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

Step 3 on that first link turned out to be it!

Seems kinda overly-complicated that there are so many places in the program that can cause something as fundamentally important as a spellcheck to stop working.
