Print a single label with OpenOffice Writer

Post by afschewe »

I am converting from MS Word to Open Office.
In Word I am able to print a single label. My handwriting is so bad, I use this to address an envelope to a business. In Word I can print on a given label, ie row 4 column 2. I have searched and haven't been able to learn how to do this in Open Office. Is it possible?

In Word I am able to print a single label.
I suppose those are are papers with many sticky labels, but you want to print on one piece only in same time, and then (in other case) you want to use the next one.

So the right position of the text to print is depend on the size of the labels.
You need a template file - with a text table, or many text labels on it. Then you will able to fille them, and you can adjust the filled ones to "invisible", or you can delete them.

Maybe you can find such templates on the template pages, but maybe you must create one.

1. Create a page the size of the label sheet, and add a table with cells the same size and position as the labels.

2. Set the table cell borders to OFF.

3. Add the address into one table cell and print.

Better still is to create a template .ott file of the envelope you intend using and print the address directly to the envelope. This is my "A4 folded in three envelope" template where I just print page 2.

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics

11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
