Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
I was typing and this feature suddenly disappeared. Now when I type it doesn't automatically capitalize after a colon anymore where it had been previously. I have no idea what I did for this to happen. I have looked where I know in the settings and can't find it. Can someone please tell me how to turn this back on?

Re: Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
Writer certainly never did so for me. Just in case this causes it (I don't think it does) check /Tools /Autocorrect options : Options tab, and make sure that the two check boxes before "Capitalize first letter of every sentence" are checked.
I don't know of any extension that produced this effect.

What Extensions have you installed? These will be listed under /Tools /Extension Manager

Re: Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
Checking those two items didn't do it for me in either Calc or Writer.

Re: Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
As I said before, I don't recollect auto-capitalization after a colon in Writer, which I have used very heavily over ten years.
There is a discussion on this, and a solution offered, in this thread

Yeah, I saw that but have no idea what they are referring to and do not understand their solution at all.

Re: Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
Automatic capitalization after a colon would be a nuisance in most cases. There are only a few cases where the first word after a colon should be capitalized: a proper name, an acronym or a complete sentence.

I was actually looking for an answer to my problem not an unsolicited opinion as to what a complete stranger thinks is annoying. I actually require this feature every paragraph for my job.Bill wrote:Automatic capitalization after a colon would be a nuisance in most cases. Re: Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
You will note that no one else has confirmed this to be a feature in their version of OpenOffice. That suggests it may be a function introduced by some other program installed on your computer. Did you at some time have Language Tool installed? if so, it may be possible to edit the configuration file of Language Tool to produce this effect.

Thanks. I will check this as well. I am using other programs so this has been a process of elimination.RoryOF wrote:You will note that no one else has confirmed this to be a feature in their version of OpenOffice. Re: Automatic Capitalization after Colon gone
Might you at some time have used one of the theater/Screen Play formatting templates available for download from the extensions repository? https://extensions.openoffice.org
If one of these had been selected to be a default template its presence would be transparent, other than its effects showing. It would not show up as an extension.
