[Solved] Caption title position

Post by taylors1 »

When I insert an image into Writer it always has the title at the bottom. I have previous set this to be 'above', but it doesn't appear to take effect.

Seems to work fine for me with an inserted .png file or a writer table. What kind of image are you inserting.

May I check with you how you set the caption title position? ie. my default appears to be for 'below'. I can change to 'above' but I'd like to have 'above' as the default.

It is a .jpg so should work just the same as your .png.

I'm not a user of captions, but a Google search for "openoffice caption wiki" found the instructions which state that the "above" option isn't available for automatically entered picture captions (it's grayed out when I try to insert a caption on a picture). The caption has to be inserted manually.

Ah! That would explain my problem. OK, I'll adjust manually each time. Thanks.

Like Bill, I'm not a caption person; I found in the help file that the Position setting is not available for all captioned items, only for some categories - I didn't follow that further.

I set the autocaption function

Tools > Options > OpenOffice Writer > Autocaption and currently have OpenOffice Writer Table & OpenOffice Writer Picture selected since these are the two that I use.

Note that you can simply erase the label in the Category box and type in your own label. OpenOffice Writer Picture offer "Illustration" and I reset it to be Figure.
