Table Query -- Making Rows Narrower

I require to make a Table with alternate wide & Narrow rows.
I can get the rows to become wider but can't find how to make them narrower.
Advise please

Can you describe what you have done to make "rows to become wider"? Does the opposite not make rows narrower? If not, what happens?

Have you tried dragging the column separators?

To get rows wider I place cursor on horizontal line & drag down, this makes row wider.
But if I go to the next row, place cursor on horizontal line & drag up (to make row narrower), nothing happens!

It seems that the default row height is set to the smallest available for the chosen font size. Try selecting all of the cells in a row and reducing the font size. On my system, the row immediately becomes narrower.

Select the rows you want to change and try
Format > Rows > Height.
