I have tired inserting Sections to have different headings in different Chapters in my book manuscript.
However, when I write a new heding in the top text for, say, Chapter 2, also the top text in Chapter 1 changes.
What should I do to avoid this?
I work on a manuscript with 17 Chapters.
Would be greatful...

I use a Field, entered in the long form /Insert /Fields /Other: Document tab : Type Chapter, Format Chapter name, level 2 .
My Level 1 Chapter entries are the Chapter numbers (Heading 1 style, autonumbering), Level 2 are the Chapter names, (Heading 2 style).

Sections are the MS Word way to do this. Sections are a totally different thing in AOO.EinarFlydal wrote:I have tired inserting Sections to have different headings in different Chapters in my book manuscript.

For those attempting to use Chapters in OO Writer, this article may be helpful:
Chapter Headings
Inserting each chapter into an OO Writer Section permits that chapter to be displayed on a different coloured background, Write protected (locked in some languages) or hidden, this can speed moving about a document while editing. Use of Sections is not essential to define the Chapter structure in Writer.

Finally, I understood it, by a lot of trial and error, and there are still effects that I do not understand why pop up. There are so many tools to check. But IT WORKS.

It is always useful to test out some advanced OO facilities on a short test document. Remember that DT <F3 key> can give you a paragraph of dummy text.
