[Solved] Protect the size of a table

Post by rayroshi »

I am making flash cards, using Office Writer and landscape orientation, with there being four cards per page of 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper. I want the four tables to remain fixed in size while typing in the text. If the sizes of the four tables change, while typing, then the flash cards will not print properly, of course. So how do I protect/freeze those tables, enabling me to fill them with text, without having them change size?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try to use a Graphical object with some text inside it.

Or you can use Frames instead of the table.

Okay, I updated my info. I'm using Windows 10 and Open Office 4.1.2.

Thank you for your help.

Could you be a bit more specific with your recommendation? What are 'graphical objects and 'frames?'

Frames can be added to your document via Insert | Frame. See the following for more information.

https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Docume ... tro/Frames
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Docume ... riter/Page
https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Docume ... age_layout

The attached file has two frames at the top of the page, each frame is 49% of the width and height of the page. Play with the frame settings to get an idea of what you can do.

What are 'graphical objects and 'frames?'
Those graphical objects are "rectangles" on the graphical layer of the texual document pages. They are rectangles with or without border line and background color.

Use the Draw toolbar of the Writer application to put a rectangle onto the page. You can anchor the rectangle
- to a paragraph, or
- to the page, or
- to a character

And you can put a frame by usage the menu item: Insert - Frame
