OpenOffice Writer form

Post by tootsie »

Hello

I am creating a form in OO 4.1.3. I will then convert it to pdf where people will fill in the data which goes to Excel table.
I have 2 questions to which I was unable to find an answer to.

1) When I open the pdf form in Adobe Acrobat Reader, the calendar dropdown does not work. When I'm in OO Writer, I can see it works. Is there are way to make it work after conversion to PDF?
2) I would like to have visible hints for users in the fields. I can put it as default value, but I would like it to disappear when user taps the field. Is it possible?
I tried using label, but this form is filled by using a tablet without a mouse. I tried to use Control > Events > Mouse button pressed, but I couldn't find (know) the right Action (macro).
I would like it to be "delete default value". Is there such a macro available or I should create it myself?

I hope it made sense :D

Thank you in advance!

Can you upload your ODF (.odt) type sample file here?

Negative on both questions. You can't do that with Writer.

See Chapter 15 - Using Forms in Writer in the manual.

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. May I suggest you bookmark the pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.
