Arabic page numbering after Roman

Post by Dominich »

I have tried everything I know to show page numbers. I want the first 7 pages to be numbered in small Roman Numerals (i,ii,iii, etc) and the rest of the pages to be numbered as 1,2,3 etc. I can either create a document using all Roman Numerals (i,ii,iii etc) or all numbers as 1,2,3 etc.

How do I create a document using both i, ii, iii and 1,2,3?

Title Edited. A descriptive title for posts helps others who are searching for solutions and increases the chances of a reply (Hagar, Moderator).

The numbering of the pages are related to the Header/Footer, and these features are related to the applied Page Style, therefore you need use different Page Styles in your document. Just
- create new ones (or use the predefined page Styles)
- adjust them (switch on the footer and/or the header in the style, put the page number Field into the Header/Footer and format it with a relevant Style, and finally
- apply the Page Style to the relevant part of the document by usage the menu item "Insert" - "Manual Break" - type: "Page Break" - with a new "Style".

Did you try reading the manual as it is fully covered there? Or the tutorials?

See Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. May I suggest you bookmark the pages. Page numbering is covered in Chapter 4 - Formatting Pages.

Press F1 to access the Help screen and search for your problem

The chapter headings in the manual are:

1 - Introducing Writer
2 - Setting up Writer
3 - Working with Text
4 - Formatting Pages
5 - Printing, Exporting, Faxing and E-Mailing
6 - Introduction to Styles
7 - Working with Styles
8 - Working with Graphics
9 - Working with Tables
10 - Working with Templates
11 - Using Mail Merge
12 - Tables of Contents, Indexes and Bibliographies
13 - Working with Master Documents
14 - Working with Fields
15 - Using Forms in Writer
16 - Customizing Writer – Keyboard shortcuts.

When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

Showing that a problem has been solved helps others searching so, if your problem is now solved, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

Using the Page Numbering Addon extension I created(currently searching for testers and new features to add.):

[Page Numbering Addon](https://extensions.libreoffice.org/exte ... ing-addon/)

1. Apply page numbering with the roman type starting from the first page.
2. Apply page numbering with arabic type starting from page 8
