Having trouble formatting from A4 to 8.5x11

It keeps happening. I want to change the entire document to 8.5x11 as it should be, but every time I go in and change it when I come back a few minutes later it has defaulted back to A4. Usually it wouldn't matter but I'm writing a book and every time I print the margins end up being cut off, by a lot. Is there a way to change the entire document to letter size and keep it that way?

You didn't explain how you made the change. There is no option to "change the entire document". You have to change the page format for every page style used in the document.

Also, make sure that the "Use printer metrics for formatting" option is unticked.
