[Solved] Unusual Table of Contents for Anthology-Style Book

Post by ChasVA »

I'm working on an anthology where the TOC needs to show both the chapter name and the author name:

Chapter Name ......... Author Name ...... 1
Chapter Name ......... Author Name ...... 2

To complicate matters, some of the Chapter Names are too long for the TOC and so an abbreviated version needs to be used. Thus, I can't see a way to use the built-in TOC.

In the Master Document, I typed out the TOC Chapter Names and Author Names and was using Cross-References to insert the page numbers, which show up fine when I first insert them. Every time I reopen the document, however, I get a display of Error: Reference source not found.

Is there no way to just add page numbers to text as a cross-reference in a Master Document?

Thanks.

SOLVED

I used bookmarks in the sub documents and then inserted a cross-reference to the bookmark page number in the TOC.

Cross-references should work as well. They are more robust than bookmarks.
If the cross-reference names were unique, it should work, there are some topics in the forum about that.
