Printing problems

Post by Janice »

I have a Canon color printer that works beautifully with OpenOffice 4.1.5; however, I can't get my Brother laser printer to print correctly. I make cards and it won't correctly print when I set the size to Landscape 10" wide by 6.5" high and two columns. The greeting is to be printed on the right column, but it comes out with only the first few letters all the way to the right edge of the paper. I went to Tools>Options>Load/Save>General and unchecked "load printer settings with document. It didn't work. This is going to be a huge problem for me. After setting my page the way I want it printed, when I check the "preview", it shows exactly how it will come out - which is wrong. It reverts back to 8.5" x 10". Thanks in advance for any help!

I tried to roughly duplicate your card description and have no problem printing on my Brother HL-3170CDW. It is too large to upload but it is available at Card.

Will it print properly on the Brother? If not, it may be a printer setting problem. If it does, then we need to see your file. You can upload it to the forum if it is less than 128K---there is an Upload tab at the bottom of the Reply and Quote windows---or you can upload it at a file sharing site such as Dropbox or MediaFire and post the link here.

Countless printing problems are due to a bad driver. Go to the Brother web site and download the correct printer driver for your printer and install it.

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.

I'm having difficulties understanding what's required to unintall the printer driver and installing the new one. My frustration level is sky high. I'll get my son to help me. Thanks for the information. :bravo:

We were unable to fix the printer problem. I have to use the Canon printer if I want to print greeting cards. I can use the Brother laser printer for everything else. Sad.
