Open new document
Hit F11
Right-click "Standard">Modify
Apply any changes you need.
menu:File>Templates>Save... [give some name]
menu:File>Templates>Organize...
Select your new template and choose "Set default" from the menu button.

F11 will bring up the Styles and Formatting dialog. Along the top are small icons for choosing different types of styles. You should be looking at the Paragraph styles, chosen with the leftmost icon. Right click on the Default style and select Modify. You should then be able to follow Villeroy's instructions.

Do you own a Lenovo with a keyboard like this: http://blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/switchin ... b-keyboard  :?:

menu:Format>Styles&Formatting... is the other way to get the stylist window.
Or menu:View>Sidebar and then the Styles&Formatting section in that sidebar
The stylist is a central feature for Writer, Calc, Draw and Impress.

Sorry I am so dense on this one.
I get to the Modify screen and make the change from "Times New Roman" to "Arial.
I select OK but if I close and reopen the default font returns to Times New Roman.
I try going to File>Template> Save and give new name "default"
Try File>Template>Organize but get no choice to "Set Default" from any menu that appears.

If you're using an English version of AOO, then change "Standard" to "Default". The word "Standard" is used in the internal XML files, but "Default" is used in Styles and Formatting.
