[Solved] Character size is wrong, can't fix it.

Post by DSKauai »

Hi.

I'm having trouble with the character size display in ODT. I'm using Times New Roman 12pt, but it is displaying it as if it were approximately 14pt. When I save it as an RTF, it appears correct. I've gone into Format - Characters and everything that I can see looks like it's set correctly. I've checked Paragraph, and it looks correct, too. I have an old ODT that displays the font size correctly. When I save it as an RTF, then Copy/Paste it into a new ODT, it displays incorrectly again.

I'd include a screen grab, but I don't know how to do that..

Please help, I need the 12pt to keep track of where I am. Thanks very much!

Try the attached file, both for display and for printing.

If it prints correct size, adjust OO's onscreen zoom - either by /View /Zoom, by the slider in the bottom right corner, or by the % box in the bottom right.

A common error is for users to expect that a document should show onscreen at the same size as it will print. Suppose by careful adjustment of the zoom one gets it to show at the correct size. What happens if you are given a a much larger monitor, or put the image through a projector? The image size will change but the resulting document (when printed) will be unchanged. All one can do is consider how the page looks and the relative areas of text.

Many authors, when writing, will set the document to display the line filling the screen. If they need to see the progress of the page, or position graphics, they change the zoom factor (quickly among presets by double or right clicking in the % box at bottom right).
