Find & Replace backwards will not replace format

Post by pnm_asst_ed »

To reproduce:

1) Open (or create) a non-empty document.
2) Edit --> Find & Replace ...
3) Search for: <something in your document>
Replace with: <whatever>
While in the "Replace with" box, select a Format. (I'm trying for "italic", but anything will do: font, color, spacing, ...)
Check the "Backwards" option
4) Execute the Find/Replace (e.g., Replace All, Find + Replace)
5) Notice that the format of the replaced text doesn't change. (Though if you place the cursor immediately before your Find text, you can bring up the Format --> Character dialog to confirm that the format is marked in that spot.)

Works fine if you search forwards.

Just for kicks, I also tried OO 3.4.1 and confirmed the behavior there as well.

I do not know if it is a bug or not... But I know it: it is not a good idea to edit/change formatting properties of a document by usage the Find and Replace function.

Use the Styles feature of the office suite. It is more efficient way to properly format a document.
