Corrupted doc files

Post by ldawrites »

I have been having a problem recently where I'll try to open a file, and a box will pop up asking me to specify ASCII filter options. If I click OK, the document will open with all the text converted to hashmarks. Is there any way to retrieve it or revert to an earlier version?

If this is a Writer file - .odt - then the document is unrecoverable as it stands. See [Tutorial] The Dreaded Pound Signs: file reduced to #### where there are some hints for possible recovery options.

For future peace of mind, you might consider installing the Timestamped backup extension.
