[Solved] How to switch off automatic word finishing

Post by Canna W »

I'm sorry, I know this is very basic, but I did a search and couldn't find the answer. I've just swapped to a new computer, and Open Office has reverted to automatically filling in words that I start typing. I would be most grateful if you could you please tell me how to stop this....

Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

For Writer, go to Tools | Autocorrect Options and under Word Completion ensure Enable word completion is unchecked.

For Calc, go to Tools | Cell Content and make sure AutoInput is unchecked.

In future, when you have a problem please make sure you let us know which of the AOO tools is involved so we can give you specific information.
Cheers

Zixi and robleyd

Thank you so much for your kind help. It is all sorted out now. I didn't realise that there are different versions of Open Office. I have 'Writer' and will try to mention that in future.

Thank you again for your help!

Apache OpenOffice is a suite of programs which include Calc, a spreadsheet; Writer, a word processor; Base, a database front end; Impress, a presentation package; Draw a drawing package; and Math for creating mathematical equations. If you installed Apache OpenOffice with the default settings you will have all these available to you.

See http://www.openoffice.org/product/index.html for more information.

Robleyd - Wow, that is pretty impressive! I had no idea of the full scope of Open Office! The person who kindly installed Open Office Writer on my computer knows that I only need that part of the programme, so didn't tell me about the others parts. Once again, I'm extremely impressed!

See [Tutorial] Automatic functions in Writer - enable / disable

As a new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
