JPEG Images from Adobe PE 15 do not maintain size

Post by doktoroblivion »

I currently upgraded from Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 to 15 and now I noticed that images that have been scaled and appear correct no longer keep their imperial (inches) image sizes in OO_4.1.4. I tried an older release of OO and saw the same thing. Is there some new standard for JPG/JPEGs that OO is not following to get the image resolution or something that would make these images out of scale in OO?
For example, I cropped and rescaled an image in Adobe PE 15 from a 72p/i 12x15 to a 150p/i 2x3 image. When I imported it into OO in a pre-size field for it and pressed the "Original Size" button on the image dialog, it thought the image was 3.??x4.?? (I don't remember exactly). Has anyone noticed the same or have any advice. When I used Adobe PE 8 and OO 4.0.1 I never had this problem.
Kind Regards, Erick

A 2" x 3" image at 150 ppi produces an image 300 pixels x 450 pixels.OpenOffice uses 96 ppi instead of 150 ppi, so the original size of a 300 pixel x 450 pixel image in OpenOffice should be 3.125" (300/96) x 4.6875" (450/96).

After going back to Windows to look at the problem, I realized that the "original size" in OpenOffice is related to the dpi setting in the image file. If I open an image with IrfanView, the Print size shown in IrfanView - Image properties is the same as the "original size" shown in OpenOffice. Is Adobe PE 15 saving the images with the right dpi setting?

See [Tutorial] Some useful hints on using images for a discussion on how best to handle images in Writer.
LO 6.4.4.2, Windows 10 Home 64 bit

See the Writer Guide, the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials and Writer for students.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
