Weird symbols when using enter & space

Post by ToniJii »

Hey!

For some weird reason my Open office started showing some symbols on screen always when I use enter. I mean, when I press enter a new symbol comes to be seen. When I preview the document, it doesn't show, so I guess it won't be there when printed. But it's pretty annoying. Could anyone help me and guide how to remove this?

Also when I use space, it leaves a dot behind.

Always when something like this comes up, I cannot but wonder... WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF FOR EXAMPLE THIS WEIRD PROPERTY / FEATURE... On what occasions it's useful to have your scren filled with these.. thingys..

Anyway, thanks for help!

Toggle /View /Non Printing Characters.

As why it is there - if you are doing any form of non-trivial formatting, these indicators are most useful. Many heavy users of Writer have this setting on all the time.

These characters tell you exactly what Writer has been instructed to do so that the text lays out the way it does. If you have a gap before the start of a line they tell you whether it is because of tab(s), and how many; because of spaces; or, by their absence, because the paragraph has been formatted with a gap before the line. I have them on all the time so that I can understand why Writer does what it does.

As a relatively new poster you will find much useful information in the Writer FAQ, the Writer Tutorials, the up to date Writer guide and the Writer Manual. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

You will also benefit greatly from hovering your mouse over each icon to see what it does.

If your problem is solved please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

Remember: Always save your Writer files as .odt files. - see here for the many reasons why.
