Re: Custom colors
Choose the menu item Tools -> Options, expand the OpenOffice list on the left and select Colors. You can define custom colors there and and them to the palette.

Tip 2:How to fill full page?
Now only content box
Draw a colorized shape (a rectangle); anchor it to the page, resize it to the full page and then send it to the background.
Do this at the end of the editing of the textual part of the document, because you will not able to select the text on the page in the AOO Writer after applying this "background color".

Re: [Solved] Custom colors
It's a shame that OpenOffice 4.1.9 still doesn't have Custom Colours under Font Colour, Page Colour, etc.
It should have been implemented way before.
I had to shift to LibreOffice. And once shifted, I don't think I'll ever come back to OpenOffice.
Cuz it's amazing! LibreOffice does have Custom Colours option under Font Colour, Page Colour, etc. And one of my biggest miseries got resolved: the Tab Bar!
Wish I had heard about it before. I'm a school student and my book has chapters for OpenOffice and not LibreOffice, sadly.
