Styles or macros?
I am a writer and write plays from time to time. I used to use word in the past and it was relatively easy to create a style followed by another style. For example, I would set up the style character which would give me a new indent and the character in small caps followed by body text. It took me half an hour to set up the styles which then worked perfectly throughout the document. I have tried to look up Customise Style, but cannot find how to create my own styles. Can anybody help. Or should I be doing this in macros? I somehow remember that a new style can be set up in macros. I may be wrong. I am just not familiar enough with Open Office, which is excellent in all other general matters and have been using it for many years now. (Geoff)

Re: Styles or macros?
The answer is (in this case): Styles.Styles or macros?
Not needed macros for creating the Styles. (Otherwise you can create Styles by macros, too.)I have tried to look up Customise Style, but cannot find how to create my own styles. Can anybody help. Or should I be doing this in macros? I somehow remember that a new style can be set up in macros.
Open the Stylist (hit F11 or from the menu Format - Styles and formatting, or (if you use the SideBar) just click on the Styles and Formatting icon of the Sidebar: The Styles will be appeared.
You must choose it what type of the styles want to create or mofify: Paragraph Styles, Character Styles, Pages Styles, ... etc.
Indents are related to the Paragraph Styles.I would set up the style character which would give me a new indent and the character in small caps followed by body text.

Re: Styles or macros?
In case it isn't obvious; within the Styles and Formatting dialogue box, you can then select a style and either right click and select New, or use the second icon from the right (at the top of the box) for New Style From Selection.

If I remember correctly Word Styles are rather different from AOO. You might want to have a loot at https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Docume ... ith_Styles
