[Solved] Count the words in a document.

Post by FredC »

Using a PC with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit and OO 3.4.1.
Does OO Writer have the capability to count the words in a document?
If so how is it applied?
If not, it would be a useful capability.

/Tools /Word Count will show you the Wordcount for the document and also for currently selected text. If you want a running wordcount, install
https://extensions.openoffice.org/en/pr ... controller
which will display a running wordcount in the Statusbar. It will also show the count for selected text, with a limit in the case of the selection of 30,000 characters, about 4,500 words.

OpenOffice Calc V3.3.0, Win 7, 64-bit
That archaic old version maybe not have the word count feature (i not remember).
The newer versions (LibreOffice Still 5.3.5, LibreOffice Fresh 5.4.0 has such feature by default: there is a label on the statusbar for displaying the word count and other statistic data:
LibreOffice 4.4.7
LibreOffice 4.4.7
Tibor Kovacs, Hungary; LO7.5.8 /Win7-10 x64Prof.
PortableApps/winPenPack: LO3.3.0-7.6.2;AOO4.1.14
Please, edit the initial post in the topic: add the word [Solved] at the beginning of the subject line - if your problem has been solved.

Word count exists in OO 3.4.1 as above described (Zizi).
The extension (Rory) is offered only for the OO 4.x version. OO 3.4.1 refuses installation.
I'd recommend update on OO 4.1.3.

Note that there is no word count on the status bar in AOO - the image above from Ziz64 shows the LibreOffice status bar.
