[Solved] Insert page # inserts the Phrase not the numbers
Insert page numbers inserts the Phrase 'PAGE NUMBERS' not the numbers. Acts similar with the other insert fields like 'insert time'. I use the OO 4.1.3 and Win 10 but win 10 crashed recently and I did a reinstall.

Rory you are a great moderator. Apparently you are King of your domain. I don't live here. I used the search to see if anyone addressed this topic before but got no hits. My question in July of 2015 was a different question. My OO has never before inserted the word phrase 'Page Numbers' when I need 1-zees and 2-zees.
But I do apologize for troubling you, after spending 20 in the military and serving my country in other ways, my 70 year old mind in not as sharp as yours. I am still looking for an answer.

Have you tried to go to the menu View and then click the Field names entry?

Yes. Both in and out of footer fields to see if that made any difference. Nope.

Re: Insert page numbers inserts the Phrase not the numbers.
Well, I stumbled through all the advice. Which was hard for me with my limitations. I made my user profile show hidden files, I copied my working user profile from a 2nd computer... no change. I copied my entire Open Office 4 directory from one computer to the next... No change. I re-installed OO from scratch, I repaired OO from scratch...no change.
I still get the phrase 'PAGENUMBERS' inserted instead of the actual number. When I try to insert pagecount, I get the phrase 'statistics'. Apparently, my problem is not with Open Office. What else could it be?

I just opened your file and the fields are appeared as you expect. I am using LO 4.4.7, but I had tried it with my AOO 4.1.2 too - with same result:

As with Zizi64, your document opened correctly for me (my default setting is not to /View /Field names). I was able to switch backward and forward between Zizi64's display and yours by /View /Field names or Ctrl F9.

It seems that the screenshot did it. Could you please tell what was wrong exactly?

Re: [Solved] Insert page # inserts the Phrase not the number
As far as I can make out /View /Field codes is a general OO setting for all documents, not a document specific setting; when I opened the sample document ion my computer, it opened with the information displayed (my default) not the field code name. Ditto, I think, for Zizi64.

The answer of : Simply click on /View/Field Names in OpenOffice Writer or press Ctrl F9.
Which went a whole lot faster than all the other answers tried. Thanks to all who helped.

I have heard privately from the OP. All is well. I think we should let this thread end.
