Tamil fonts vs Scribus

dear forum members
i am a newbie to open office.

i have created a newsletter using scribus. while most of the articles are in
english, there are some articles in tamil, a regional language.

there is no problem at all in typing the article in tamil, in open office.

but when the article is brought to text frame, instead of tamil fonts,
small squares are appearing. interestingly, when i want to edit the
text by story writer, the tamil fonts appear same as the original document.
but in the canvas, the same small squares appear.

i doubt whether scribus is supporting open office tamil fonts.

please guide me as to how i can paste the document in open office to scribus.

thanking you

There really is no such thing as an open office tamil font.

OpenOffice uses your installed systems fonts. I suspect it is something to do with Scribus's ability to display the font but it is strange that the font shows up in storywriter.

What happens if you try to export the Scribus file to a PDF?

A quick google shows a similar but not identical problem from 2011 in
Scribus http://forums.scribus.net/index.php?topic=38.0. You might want to do some serious on-line searching to see if there has been a resolution to such problems. In any case it does not look like it is an OpenOffice problem.

Dear sir
I shall try sending the file to pdf and shall keep you informed about the result

In the meantime will you please suggest any other method by which I can copy the open office file to scribus.

Thanks

Apparently Scribus can import OpenOffice files - https://www.scribus.net/svn/Scribus/bra ... ints3.html

Perhaps that is worth a try.

This seems to be a problem with scribus - try their forum - http://forums.scribus.net/

I believe robleyd is correct, it is a Scribus problem. However just a thought. Do you have more than one Tamil font?

If so you might try using a different one and see what happens. I am not hopeful but ...
tamil, a regional language
Ah yes, common around Trico and Toronto.

Dear sir
Tried with three different fonts.
No luck. Posted about this in scribus forum. No reply till now. With your technical knowledge i request to raise with them in forum to resolve this issue to help OO community.
Sorry if this request is too much.
Thanks

From Scribus
0014368: [Fonts] Tamil Font is not displayed properly (cbradney)
https://sourceforge.net/projects/scribu ... 1.5.3.svn/

so it seems to be a known problem but I don't see a date. Is that a current Scribus version?

Dear sir
I am using 1.5.3. i think it is the latest version.
As a layman i am unable to understand contents of the scribus forum comments .
Thank you for the initiative taken. Kindly advise me the steps i should take.

Dear sir
This is in continuation of my earlier post.
I want to know whether ghostscript is to be downloaded or is it part of scribus - meaning automatically downloaded when scribus is installed.
I think I am coming close to resolve my issue.

Thanks

This is a support forum for Apache OpenOffice - not Scribus or any other program.

Google font square box to find things like Why does some text display with square boxes in some apps on Windows 10?

If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.
