[Solved] Continute numbering in new table

Post by Huodiwen »

Greetings

I've got several tables in a document, and would like to continue numbering throughout.

What you are doing is "non-standard" so your chance of success is low and/or the method of doing it is likely to be difficult as it is effectively a workaround.

That being said, copying lines from the first table to the second seems to do what you want. I tried to reset the second table to start at, say, 100 by Format > Bullets and Numbering > Options > Start at ..., but it caused the entire number sequence to start at 99 showing all numbers are a single sequence.

If at any stage you cannot force Writer to do what you want, don't use numbering and just type the numbers. You may be able to use a field and create your own number sequence - see Create a number range variable in Chapter 14 - Working with Fields in the OOo v3.3 Writer Manual for more information. When a pop-up window opens, click the Help button for extensive help on that function - it is often more comprehensive than the manual.

If someone else is going to fill in the answers, have you thought of using a form? See Chapter 15 - Using Forms in Writer

See [Tutorial] Differences between Writer and MS Word files for why you should always work in and save files as .odt.

If this solves the problem, please view your first post in this thread and click the Edit button (top right in the post) and add [Solved] in front of the subject.

The restarting of the numbering is probably a consequence of using direct formatting by using the Numbering icon on the Toolbar to apply the numbering instead of using a numbering style. Right-click a numbered paragraph in one of the cells in the first table and select "Edit paragraph style". Click the Outline and Numbering tab. The numbering style is shown as "None". This means that the numbering has been applied directly to the paragraph and no numbering style has been applied to the paragraph's paragraph style. Close the Paragraph Style dialog. Right-click a numbered paragraph in one of the cells in the first table and select "Paragraph". Click the Outline & Numbering tab and make note of the Numbering style. Do the same for the numbered cell in the second table. The numbering styles are different, so there are two independent lists instead of one list. The easiest way to apply the same numbering style is to use the Format Paintbrush. Click in a cell in the first table. Click the Formatting Paintbrush, then click the numbered cell in the second table.
