[Solved] Table of contents without page numbers

Post by bgreen »

Ok, I can create a TOC of chapters in a novel but it insists on listing the page numbers on the right of screen.
So I'm very frustrated!
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards

  • Right click the ToC and select Edit Index/Table
  • Select the Entries tab
  • You see a Structure field with ToC elements shown as boxes. Click to select thebox with a # to the right and delete it.
You may also want to remove the preceding T box, which represents a tab (by default having dotted fill on the line).
  • Click OK
In some cases you need to right click the ToC again and select "Update" to see the changes.

Wel, if you already have the TOC it should be easy to remove/replace the pagenumber.

To Remove:

Right-click in TOC

Select "Edit Index/Table"

Go to tab Entries

delete the item with the pound-sign (#) in the line Structure on the tab Entries selecting it en push on key Delete
Remove Pagenumber TOC.png
Remove Pagenumber TOC.png (10.14 KiB) Viewed 5786 times
This will totally remove the pagenumber from your TOC

To replace:

After removing, add Pagenumber on the right spot in the line Structure ( for instance at the very beginning)

Many thanks. I also had to delete the tab stops to remove the fill character.
I can't find any reference in the instructions as to that procedure.
Again thank you.

The reference is only partly included within the built-in help pages, but there you may find the requested help:

Trying to solve this same problem, I got as far as opening up the properties as two users described, but it's not at all clear how to actually delete the page number value. The screen shot posted confirms I'm in the right place, but it's not clear to me how to actually delete it. Could anyone explain to me like I"m five how to accomplish this?

Click the part in the structure line that you want to delete then press the Delete key on your keyboard. Work with a copy of your document until you're sure how to do it.

Maybe my problem is that I'm using a macbook, and delete keys don't follow rational rules on these computers. I'm trying to remove the page numbers. I clicked on the button marked "#" (the button that is highlighted in the screen shot provided by DiGro earlier in this thread) and pressed delete, but nothing happens.

Working with a copy as advised, I also tried deleted the table of contents and starting again, but run into the same problem: pressing the delete key in a macbook does not appear to trigger the delete behavior in this context. Is there a workaround? If necessary I'll enable manual edits and remove each one that way, but I'm fond it being able to update the table.

Isn't Mac delete key a little different in behaviour compared to other systems? You may try fn + Del, or Ctrl + D

See Is there a "Delete" key on the Macbook PRO which may give you some useful information. Or try a web search for delete key mac

That helped! The combination was command+fn+delete, but I hadn't thought about trying different combinations. Thank you.
