[Solved] How to save PDF in the same folder as the document

I often write a ODT document. Then I want to save it as a PDF.
The default path where OO proposes to save the file is never where my document is saved.
Is there a way to change this option, so the PDF wil by default be saved in the same folder as my document?

Try changing in /Tools /Options /OpenOffice /Paths the path for Gallery and/or Graphics. You may need to restart OpenOffice for this to take.

Thank you but that's is not helping me.
The point is: I am working on a document and i save it in the folder A. Then I want to save it as a PDF. Instead of saving it in folder A as well, as would be logical, it is sent to folder B, which is the folder I used for saving an earlier document in a previous session.
Of course, it is no big trouble to chance the save to path, but is there a way so that the PDF would be saved by defaultto the same folder A as the odt document itself?

It works fine for me with AOO 4.1.1 and LO4.4.3 as you expected - on Win7 prof64bit. It works with AOO/LO dialogs or with windows dialogs too. You are using Win8. Maybe it is an operating system related problem...

Are you using File > Export as PDF ...?

For me, that always defaults to saving alongside the .odt document file.

If that's not happening for you, it might help to reset your OO settings profile. This just means exiting OO, renaming (or removing) the folder where OO stores all its settings, then restarting OO--it will then create a new settings profile folder.

For details, see: [Tutorial] The OOo user profile
 Edit: PS:
The other issue, which I assume is already accounted for, is that you have to have saved the document in a file somewhere. If you start a new document and try to export as PDF, then there's no location assigned to the document and the pdf will default to some other location (the gallery folder, or something like that).

What I find on my computer (Windows 7, AOO 4.1.1) :
  • Using system dialogs, the proposed folder of Export to PDF has no relation with the folder from the document.
  • Using OpenOffice dialogs, the proposed folder of Export to PDF is the folder from the document.
Same pattern using menu File > Export (and Windows dialog proposes another folder !)

Setting to use OpenOffice dialogs : menu Tools > Options > OpenOffice > General

Right. Excellent point. I'm using the OO file dialogs.

It makes sense that it may work differently with the system dialogs.

You may even save the document and the PDF in the same file.
menu:File>Export PDF...
[X] Export Hybrid PDF
Now you have two documents in one file that can be loaded with any PDF viewer and with Open/LibreOffice

I had never noticed that. I create a new file fred.odt and save it. I then click the PDF icon, or I File > Export as PDF. In both cases I am offered a different folder from the folder containing fred.odt, and I need to navigate to fred's folder to save it alongside fred.odt.
Edit: Tools > Options > OpenOffice > General > Use OpenOffice dialogue boxes is not ticked
It seems that the PDF is saved in the same folder as the last PDF created by Writer was saved. This actually works well for me as I separate production .pdf files from editable .odt files, and all my pdf files are sent to the same folder as the first pdf.

If this solves the problem, please edit your original post title to [Solved].

yet another tip:

Do you work with document file or do you work with a template file really?

When you open a template file (.ott, .ots, ...) it will open az Unnamed1, and it have not any URL. The office software can not determine, where must save the result of the conversion (ie: the pdf file) to. Then it will be saved into the default directory (see in Tools - Options - Open/LibreOffice - Paths); or into the last used directory.
