[Solved] Apostrophe changes to é in middle of doc

Post by carroled »

I apologize in advance if this problem has already been answered. I looked at all the posts I could find dealing with apostrophes and question marks and language changes but I didnèt find the solution I need. I was writing a letter and in the middle of it I started getting è when I type the apostrophe and É when I type the question mark. I guess I hit the wrong key that switched me to another language but I donèt know what I did and I donèt know how to fix it. I found a post from 2009 but I couldnèt understand the solution that was recommended.

Windows 8.1
Open Office 4.1.1

If you notice, it is doing it when you post here - see "I didnèt find the solution" - so it is not Writer! It must be something else on your PC. I assume you are running Windows ...

Does it also happen in other programs like Notepad or your email? Are you telling your PC the correct keyboard? Have you changed the default language on your PC?

Try rebooting - does that fix it? If not, can you use System Restore to restore to an earlier time when it as not doing it? Try Start > Help and Support ..., and search on keyboard and language.

If this solves the problem, please edit your original post title to [Solved].

It sounds like you are running a French Canadian keyboard. You don't specify your OS or AOO version so it is difficult to provide exact instructions but googling something like "change keyboard layout" + your OS should help.

Solved:Apostrophe changes to e with accent in middle of docu

Thanks for the help! I went into control panel and discovered that I had multi language Canadian for my keyboard. I removed it and now I have my apostrophe and question mark back. I don't know why it switched in mid-document, but at least it's gone. Thanks again.

As it is a multi language keyboard, you probably accidentally hit the character sequence which switches the keyboard between the two languages.
