Wrong paper size

Post by maxxie1129 »

For some reason, the paper sizes are wrong in my OO. A4 has the size of A5 and A3 has the size of A4. I have absolutely no idea why. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling again, and it doesn't help.

I have searched the forum, and I tried messing around with printer preferences as suggested in one thread, but there is still no result.

Please help me. I just got this new laptop and I really need it for work.

OS: Windows 8.1
OO: 4.0.1
OpenOffice 4.0.1

I've tried but it's still not working. I even tried with previous version of OO but I still have the same problem. Any suggestion?

I've never had any such paper size problems with any version of OO on any of my computers in the 6/7 years I've used OpenOffice; as a former printer/designer I am aware of paper sizes, so I'm sure I haven't missed the problem if it existed on my machines.

I suggest you install a fresh download only from
http://www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect you through Sourceforge servers.

Before reinstalling, delete your User Profile, as this is not renewed during a reinstall.

What Printer are you using?
Edit: Can you please give the actual dimension your OpenOffice is showing for A4? also for B6 (JIS)

A4: 5.83" x 8.27"
B6 (JIS): 11.0" x 17.0"

Basically, from what I can tell, the size of A4 is actually size of A5, which is right above A4 in the drop down list.

I use several printers. I use a Xerox DocuCentre-II 300 and a mobile HP printer.

OK, definitely all offset by 1 - the B6(JIS) is giving the dimensions for Tabloid (just above it).

Try deleting User Profile and installing from a fresh download from the site I indicated.

I'm off-line for some hours now.

As a Workaround, I suggest you set the User Paper size to the dimensions of A4, and use that. I can think of no cure other than reinstalling Windows 8.1 - we've gone through any relevant OpenOffice fixes I can think of.

Sometimes it happens and it also affects the work but don’t worry when you do so, go to page setup and go to custom and write 210mm x 297 mm. It is size of an A4 size paper. Hope this helps

:alarm: TABLOID ISSUE SOLVED - Sort of. It's obviously a coding glitch, but in the mean time, simply go to your printer, change the size from whatever it is to User, and then make the size 11.05 X 17.05 or any close number like that, but never 11 X 17. Never!
I have an Epson Workforce 1100 that would not print using Tabloid or even User with a size of 11 X 17. As I said, just select User (or whatever your printer calls it such as User Defined), and use a different paper size that is close to 11 X 17. :super:
