[Solved] Writing Arabic on OpenOffice Mac

Post by Werefrog »

Hello there,

newest version of Open Office, Mac is OS 10.6.

My arabic letters do not connect with each other.

And i do not find a way to connect them, never had problems with that on a windows-based computer.

What can i do ?

Instead of

أهلا it shows اه ل ا

I have never used Arabic, so my knowledge is limited, but have you checked the settings in
Preferences /OpenOffice /Options /Language settings /Languages?

I can go no further than to point you to that area, which may lead you to a resolution sooner than waiting for someone with exact knowledge of settings for Arabic to come online.

Can you upload a sample file so that we check (see How to attach a document here)?

I've no experience with Arabic language. Here is what I get with AOO and your PDF. I would say that the AOO rendering seems correct. If so, it may be a problem with your Mac configuration.

I am seeing the same result as Hagar has shown. It may be a MAC peculiarity or perhaps you should try resetting the user profile

It renders correctly on my Mac after enabling Eastern Asian and Bi-directional writing.

I followed every hint here - new user profil etc etc. Open Office still doesnt do it. And Microsoft Word neither. No connection between the letters.

NeoOffice does, but i dont like working with it.
And the RTF reader does as well, but well, i cant work with it.
